Sometimes an artist has to take some time to do other things in life. For some reason, housecleaning, social obligations, the procuring of supplies, unexpected phone calls, and spur-of-the-moment expeditions just… happen. So my drawing of the day is very simple today, although it will be the hand-drawn component to a new book cover that I will do mostly digitally. It’s the last one in a series, and when I get this one done, I’ll post them all!

This is the sketch for the centre medallion of the book cover for “The Christening Quest” by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough. The book is part of the “Songs from the Seashell Archives” series. This is the raw scan before I cleaned it up digitally. The blue line is to help me place it within a heraldic device that was drawn for the previous book.
Wow!

I love it, but then I’m almost as partial to dragons as I am to cats!

You might just be the teeniest bit biased, then?

Yeah, could be. I hardly ever met a dragon (picture) I didn’t like!

This looks like it would make a great tattoo!

Funny you should say that — I have often been asked about using my dragons and other designs as tattoos! I always say, if you get one, I want to see it. So far the only one that I’ve seen was a griffin that I did specially for someone.

Well, I do have a friend who does tattoos (and does some pretty darn good dragons!) but I’m a bit squeamish…
