Saved by the Sketch Cards!

Summer Drawing Challenge Days 15 & 16

I know it seems unbelievable, but sometimes a gal just has to attend to other things besides art! But I managed to sit down last night and tonight and do a few more of the little sketch cards that I wrote about on Sunday’s post. I had such busy days that it was great to have some tiny project that I could do at the end of the day.

I started out with pen and ink sketches, but I wasn’t really satisfied with them, so tonight I coloured them with markers. These tiny drawings are only 3.5 x 2.5 inches; they’ll probably look bigger than that on your computer screen (unless, of course you have a tiny computer)! I’ve posted the ink version first, and the final coloured version after each. The ink ones were done with a Pigma Micron .01 pen, which is usually as small as I use, but the scale of these miniatures is such that I wished I had dug out the .005 pen.

Haven't you always wondered what happens to those buttons you were meaning to sew back on? Where do they all go?

The Green Man is an ancient symbol of the life force in nature (to make a long story very, very short). I've drawn lots of pictures of him, but never one this small!

Here's a bit more traditional looking mermaid than I've been drawing lately. It was fun to relax and not think about how an underwater human could be functional for a change!

      • I may have to play with him also. .. I can draw this kind of face ☺, but that’s about it! However, he’s not really human and I could also use 3D material like real leaves this fall perhaps. I’ll post if I get my ’round tuit’ wink!
