Summer Drawing Challenge Day 12
It’s funny how Facebook posts about hair seem to generate immediate long conversations. Today I hennaed my hair, and mentioned it on Facebook, and — ta-da! instant social engagement! I notice this in real life too — show up at a party with a new hairstyle, and it becomes 50% of the conversations that you will have that night. What is it about hair? Anyway, it got me to thinking about how much colour affects our perceptions of ourselves, and then Iris got into the act.

I was using my Cool Grey Prismacolor markers for the greyscale, then switched to some new “aqua markers” I got a while back. They are kind of strange and very hard to get smooth. Must do some more experimenting with them.

I like it in living color!

I’m torn; I like them both! But I’m glad real life isn’t in greyscale for me.

So… How does the henna work out for you? 😉

Heehee, sounds like my facebook post! I like it. It’s subtle, at least the colour I chose, Persian Red (made by Rainbow Henna). It actually gets my hair back to a similar shade that it was when I was younger, though a bit darker because my hair has darkened. Also makes it shinier, as Iris noted. And because it’s so similar to my real shade, and fades a bit over time, there’s no shocking line where my new hair grows out. It’s about the only “girly thing” I do, and it feels like pampering myself!

I’ve been know to ‘hit the bottle’ a bit myself. A darker red head that has developed gray highlights (work with me here..) and so I dye my highlights lighter red. =-) I’ve always wondered about trying henna. The only thing I may have remembered is it makes it harder to ‘take’ peroxide color after using it?? I could be spit-ballin’ there… Anyway, I hear ya about the girly needs. If you had met me 15-20 years ago, you’d laugh your arse off. Never in pants, always ready for a festive gala. Whew, glad I got over myself!

I haven’t used any other kind of colour, so I don’t know — but there’s lots of info about henna on the internet. The directions in my container said something about adding some common substance (I don’t remember what now) to make it take better on the grey.
Comfort trumps glamour, as far as I’m concerned. Although I’m constantly on the lookout for comfortable glamour.
